Ranthambhore
Ranthambhore | A Night safari @ Sandringham Reserve, Auckland NZ | Artham Dance Company | AK Satellites | 2017 RANTHAMBHORE @ Sandringham Reserve By Artham Dance Company Choreographer Bhuvana Kannan (Venkat) Creative Director Padma Akula Artham Dance Company's ‘Ranthambhore’ is inspired by the wildlife sanctuary in India, rested upon deciduous forests and grassy meadows. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, being considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, today the Ranthambore National Park terrain is major wildlife tourist attraction spot. It is one of the best places in India to spot wild cats in their natural habitat along with many other beasts and reptiles. The dance starts with the mating of Peacocks intentionally interrupted by Tigers performing hunting strategies, followed by Chameleon taking over the scene and watching Bull fights and ruthless hunting of wild animals and crossing of venomous reptiles over the paths. It's a little tour to Ranthambore National Park. Presented in classical Indian combined with tribal folk and daubed in contemporary ink, Artistic Director and Choreographer Bhuvana Kannan and Creative Director Padma Akula lure you into an Indian Night Safari. Devised by the fascination of Puliyattam [Tiger Dance] and tracing a return to old folk art dance of Tamil, ‘Ranthambhore’ explodes with exuberant moves to music composed my musical maestros. North Eastern rhythms of Rhydhun by Taufiq Qureshi and Southern percussions of Thaarai thappattai by Isaignani (Musical Genius), Ilaiyaraja. For centuries, only men have performed the pulliyatam – the tiger dance of Tamil Nadu – but in this fierce reimagining, Artham Dance Company’s all-female crew offer a contemporary take on an old tradition. Inspired by the Indian wildlife sanctuary Ranthambhore, this wild twenty-minute tour evokes steamy forests and grassy meadows, with all the beasts that lurk within. Ranthambhore @ Sandringham Reserve 2017 performed by Kamshika Umasuthan Veenavi Ranaweera Sneha Shetty Shreshtha Maiti Dharshna Ponnampalam & Anjula Prakesh as Kabaragoya [Inspired by a character in The Mourning After] ARTHAM Dance Company Founded by Padma Akula and Bhuvana Venkat (2015) is a New Zealand based dance production company providing unique experience for it's NZ audience, through exploratory and experimental story telling with an underpinning classical Indian dance form.
